It all started way back in 2005 when Mr B Basappa, with a view to supporting education in his own way, donated
note books to the students of Government Higher Primary School in his native village Heggadahalli. He always
considered education as the greatest weapon to empower a human being. He targeted the students coming from the
lowest strata of society who basically go to Government Schools. He had noticed that the Government has been
providing Uniforms, Shoes, Text Books and Midday meals to the students but not the note books, pens geometry box
etc.
He expanded the activity to few more schools by 2007. After he died in June 2008 the family expanded the
activity to nearly 10 village schools around Heggadahalli under the auspices of B Basappa Memorial Trust. But
there was a inevitable break when the Schools were closed in 2020 owing to Covid-19.
The Trust did not sit idle. It embarked on a new initiative by supporting Government Hospitals. It supplied
medicines and medical equipments to nearly 10 hospitals in Gundlupet Taluk costing nearly 1.6 million
rupees. These hospitals cater to a population of nearly 250000..
With the Schools opening partially in 2021 the Trust returned to its original activity of supporting the
students of Government Schhols. Already more than 400 students of 6th 7th 8th 9th and 10 th standards belonging
to 8 Schools have been provided with note books pens and Geometry boxes. 600 more students belonging to 1st 2nd
3rd 4th and 5th standards of 10( including few schools above) will be provided with note books once the classes
commence.
The Trust is also organizing facilitating and providing logistic support to other individual and institutional
donors in similar endeavours. In fact last year the trust organized contribution of medicines and medical
equipments to three hospitals by other donors giving them all the logistic support. This year donations of
writing material to students of two schools were organized by the trust.
The trust is looking for prospective donors to extend the activity of contribuing notebooks to students of more
Governmrnt Schools in their area of operation. The trust will be more than happy to facilitate the contribution
of donors to students of any school of their choice in Chamarajnagar and Mysore Distrcts. On an average it costs
around 150 rupees per student. There are Schools with 20 to 500 students in the area.
